Ahead of my own time.

A little over ten years ago I coined a new term. Hoolequin. A portmanteau to describe a certain type of person. Part harlequin, part hooligan. One who laughs, but is tough. An aggressive buffoon. Equal parts harmful and harmless. Someone who knows how to band together to get things done, but have fun doing it. A colorful character, indeed. There were a few of us, we often shortened it to just The Quin.

Quin or Quit.

Shortly thereafter, I began writing and doing things under the Hoolequin banner. In the process of all that, I invented a fictitious company in the same vein as the Acme Corporation. (Road Runner / Wile E. Coyote, etc.) . I called it Hoolequindustries. To me, it rolls off the tongue pretty well. It is a 5 syllable word but it flows well. I abbreviated it to HQI.

HQI needed logos, slogans, etc. So I gave it such. I developed actual material for a fictitious company. The slogan I gave HQI was “creating yesterday by remembering tomorrow.” Perhaps I was just swapping words around to create a bit of absurdity, but looking at what I wrote – I think I was just ahead of myself by several years.

Now that I’ve been in serious consideration of my video project for quite some time, to include Empty Horizon Cloudless Skies, I think it might just need a comma.

“Creating yesterday by remembering, tomorrow.”

Perhaps, maybe that’s what I should call the entire project: “A better yesterday.”

Recording yesterday in its first person perspective, from the source, creates the better yesterday – regardless if the memory is positive or negative. I’m living proof of people being consistently inspired by negative, inspiring others through tragedy, and learning to make the best of a bad situation. That doesn’t even take into account all the positive that could out of it on its own.

Plus, I am a man of contrasts. I have few memories, so I want to record others’. I have limited sensory replication (imagination) because of memory loss, so I make art based on emotion and intuition. I have limited continuity because of memory loss, so I make music based on repetition and mechanics. On and on it goes.

One slogan, for a parent company created years ago reminds me of one thing: my intuition is still a force to be reckoned with. Something The Quin never cease to point out when they have the opportunity to do so.

Maybe, when the dust settles I’ll help people create a better yesterday they can remember, tomorrow, and whenever else they want. Everyone else can remember them and their stories be they: a moment in the sun, everyday heroes, or setting the record straight. Perhaps: an anonymous moment of atonement, a promotion of a magnum opus, or a requiem for the lost. Create yesterday.
