we were young once, and relevant
we found not your wisdom but apathy
and we who inflict no more trauma
became the afterthought we were always afraid of being
first to be used
first to be discarded
last to cut our losses and move on
last to not see the past in the future
and alone in the vacuum we are left to wonder
why isn’t the future what it used to be?
