Resist – Poetry (Other) – VA 2017
just when it seems within reach
foundations of progress are breeched
you want it all to burn
defeat is what you yearn
you delay us with your speech
shouting until our throats are sore
it’s clear I fought a different war
I’m trying to help disarm
you’re fanning the flames of harm
for me there’s no esprit de corps
on their arms they wore my patch
but with glee our foes dispatched
execute the oath I’ve sworn
only later found the time to mourn
they and I a clear mismatch
each day I feel I killed for naught
their victory laps they gloat and trot
just relent and go insane
for this one will die in vain
we did not do what we aught
’tis our duty to move with time
be it a slope or hard climb
deal with their urge to quit
to give up and to sit
they impede progress in its prime
alternative facts real fears
peaceful protests through weapons-grade tears
the cards collapsed and quick
we felt queasy and sick
playing damage control for years
’tis going to be a long fight
You try to distract our sight
have issues and qualms
we’re calm like a bomb
resist with all our might
