…A lot of the fox news and adjacent crowd are fed the narrative we are the enemy. Remember when ‘Communist’ was enough to get someone dragged away? It’s ‘Liberal’ now in some communities. Blaming someone else for your problems has been a tried and true strategy for winning over the poor for ages.
The Divide-and-Conquer operation of people like Hannity (who lives in NYC) telling the rural poor liberal city folk are the obstacles for them to accomplish all their goals, and constantly moving the goalposts, is effective. We are both faceless but easily identifiable. If we don’t meet their purity test, we deserve to be purged.
It will take years of education funding, infrastructure, corporate accountability to put a dent in it. As the percentage of the population continues to become more urban, and as the country continues to become less white we’ll see what their desperation looks like.
I take solace knowing they have a voice and a platform, and that’s fine, but they do not come close to representing a majority of the country. We just live in unfortunate times wherein the relics of old ways remain in power and are doing as much damage as possible while they can. Other countries have rebuilt and so can we…
