I’m not “in” the game scene, apparently. The more I learn, the more I understand I never was. I’m ok with that, I enjoy them on my own anyway. One game series I’ve come to deeply enjoy and respect is Mass Effect, by Bioware.
I enjoy many things about it, and we can get into it another time. However, one of the chief things that sets the game apart is actual moral choice. In a large number of situations you’re given choices that matter.
Most games are linear in their character progression. Even if you’re given dialogue options, it doesn’t change anything – generally speaking.
I hope more games have real moral choice, in the future. Are all players going to stop and think about it? Are they invested? No.
Some of us are, and we don’t want to just be stuck in a cardboard character role, over and over again.
Give me a ping please, one ping only.
P.S.: A Metroid game with real moral choice could be amazing.
