loneliness is waiting for the response that never comes

Waiting by Anchorwind : December 2015

As I was writing this, I had a lightbulb moment. loneliness is indeed waiting for the response that never comes, but beneath the anxiety, sadness, and anger, loneliness is just waiting. We may wait for the person we haven’t met yet. We may wait for the wrong person, and they need to just tell us we got it wrong so we can move on. We may have it right, but have to wait anyway due to circumstances beyond our control. Whichever the case may be, all loneliness is waiting. Loneliness makes days long, the heart heavy, and tries every fiber in our being. We have doubts, outbursts, and distractions, all because we long to stop waiting and start living – the way we truly want to live. We want to live with who our heart yearns for, who fills our thoughts in the moments inbetween. Life is different when we aren’t waiting. Time flows differently, our energy flows differently, life just makes more sense. Then that fleeting moment passes and we go back to that dark, quiet, hole again. We do what we can to pass the time, to set things up for a better tomorrow. Whatever it is we do, it’s all the same: we’re just waiting. Loneliness is waiting.
